The 2WD BT-01 chassis – which offers choices of FF/MR/FR drive system – welcomes another R/C kit; this time, a short wheelbase, midship rear motor / rear wheel drive (MR) setup with the body which recreates the Porsche 911 Carrera RSR 2.8.

The Porsche Carrera RS 2.7 is a legend of the Porsche 911 series. Developed to join European GT races in 1973, it employed a 2,687cc horizontally opposed 6-cylinder engine capable of 210hp, a lightweight body with improved aerodynamics, and wide rear tires.

The Carrera RSR 2.8 racing version increased displacement to 2,808cc and output to over 300hp; in 1973, it was a European GT race champion and took numerous global victories.

About the real Porsche 911 Carrera RSR 2.8

The Porsche 911 Carrera RSR 2.8 is a legendary race car that left an indelible mark on motorsport history. Let’s delve into the details of this iconic machine:

  1. Origins and Purpose:

    • Introduced in 1973, the RSR was a factory-built racing car based on the Porsche 911 chassis.
    • Porsche developed the RSR to maintain its dominance in long-distance GT racing.
    • The goal was to compete in the 2,500-3,000 cc GT class.
  2. Engine and Performance:

    • Engine: A 2,807 cc, air-cooled horizontally flat-six.
    • Power: 280.0 bhp at 8000 rpm.
    • Torque: 215.0 ft lbs at 6300 rpm.
    • Weight: 900 kg (1984 lbs).
    • Acceleration (0-60 mph): Approximately 4.5 seconds (estimated).
    • Top Speed: 170 mph.
  3. Evolution from the 2.7 RS:

    • The 2.7 RS, with its wide wheel arches and ducktail spoiler, was a brilliant road car.
    • Porsche took the 2.7 RS and transformed it into an all-out racing model—the 2.8 RSR.
    • Unlike converted street cars, the 911 2.8 RSRs were purpose-built for serious competition.
    • Every conceivable improvement allowed by the FIA rule book was incorporated.
  4. Homologation and Production:

    • To meet Group 4 regulations, Porsche needed to build 500 identical 911 specials.
    • The early form of homologation special was the 2.7 liter Carrera RS.
    • From these roots, the 2.8 RSR emerged as a thoroughbred racer.
  5. Legacy and Rarity:

    • Only 55 RSR 2.8 race cars were produced.
    • Among the most desirable racing 911s, they remain highly sought after by collectors.
    • The RSR’s Le Mans success, including a class win and fourth overall, solidified its place in motorsport history.
    • Restored examples, like the one presented in original Viper Green livery, command significant value.

In summary, the Porsche 911 Carrera RSR 2.8 epitomizes the fusion of performance, engineering, and racing passion—a true gem in the Porsche lineage!
